Haters gonna hate: Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' just cracked 1 million sales

Taylor Swift's new album "Reputation" has sold more than one million copies in its first five days, Nielsen Music said on Tuesday, but the US pop star failed to beat the record set by Britain's Adele two years ago.

But the figure was less than half the monster sales for the debut of Adele's "25" album, which surpassed 2.43 million copies in the first four days of release in November 2015 and smashed a 15-year-old USA record set by boy band NSync in 2000. Experts think that number may even double by the end of the week.

Reputation is now Swift's fourth album to log a million-selling week. And last week's top seller was Sam Smith's "The Thrill of it All", which clocked up 185,000 sales (outside of streaming).

Don't take her girly style, though, to mean that the "old Taylor" is back: Take one look at the snake ring on her right hand for a reminder of her new "reputation". Reputation is also already the best-selling album of the year. The performance was unscheduled, and organized at the last moment as a tribute to Fallon's mother, Gloria, who passed away last week. Other big debuts include 2014's "1989", 2012's "Red", and 2010's "Speak Now".
