Created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel, the 1990s anthology series was set around a group of kids who called themselves the Midnight Society and would tell various scary stories, some of which were based on fairytales and urban legends but with an added modern twist.

"The show is about the shared experience of telling stories - especially scary ones", Dauberman, who also wrote Annabelle: Creation, told THR. We're going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. "I hope the Midnight Society approves", said Dauberman.

Now, the television show - which premiered on the network in '92 during its SNICK teen-themed block on Saturday nights - is coming to the silver screen and being penned by IT screenwriter Gary Dauberman for Paramount Players, a new branch of the studio geared toward producing motion pictures aimed at younger audiences.

He is now producing horror movies The Children for New Line and exec producing The Nun, a spinoff from The Conjuring movie series.

Dauberman has emerged this year as one of the hottest scribes in town, nearly having a billion-dollar year thanks to It, which has made $683 million worldwide, and Annabelle: Creation, which has scared up $305 million.
