News has dismissed one of its top newsroom executives after more than one woman came forward alleging inappropriate conduct, according to an NBC statement shared with TPM.

"We have recently learned that Matt Zimmerman engaged in inappropriate conduct with more than one woman at [parent company NBCUniversal], which violated company policy".

News said Tuesday that an executive was sacked following a network investigation into sexual harassment allegations against him made by several women.

Sources say the allegations were brought to the attention of human resources recently.

Earlier this month, NBC News cut ties with political analyst Mark Halperin after CNN reported that he allegedly sexually harassed women during his 10-year tenure as political director of ABC News from 1997 to 2007.

Matt Zimmerman, who had been with the network since 2004, was senior vice president of a consolidated guest booking unit that was formed in April 2014.

In the six weeks since the disturbing revelations about disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, sexual harassment disclosures have swept through multiple industries and government offices.

Zimmerman is widely known to be one of "Today" co-host Matt Lauer's closest associates and confidants at the network.
