Officers arrived on scene at 31 Locust St. around 2:30 p.m. Monday for the report of an unresponsive baby.

According to the Rochester Police Department, the mother of a 10-day-old baby has been arrested for the infant's death. "This felony complaint is based upon the personal investigation conducted by your complainant and other members of the Rochester Police Department".

Officials say the child, named Jeremiah, was taken to Rochester General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 10-day-old remained unresponsive upon arrival of police, and officers were told the infant was discovered that way.

Markiya Mitchell, 25, admitted to investigators that she intentionally drowned her son in the bathtub with the goal of ending his life.

Police say Mitchell also has a seven-year-old child, who's now in the care of a relative.

Mitchell appeared in a court hearing Tuesday morning and pleaded not guilty.
