"Government is unable to control cow vigilantes as again one Ummar (Khan) has been killed in Alwar while transporting cows and calves", Sharad Yadav said in his tweet.

"It is a clear case of murder over the issue of cow protection and we have also found that the victim was running a cow-smuggling racket", Prakash said.

Umar's body was found near railway on November 11, with his family members and activists alleging that he was shot dead by cow vigilantes when he was ferrying cattle in a vehicle the day before.

Alwar Additional Superintendent of Police Mool Singh Rana said both "gau rakshaks" have confessed to the assault.

According to ANI, the two persons arrested by the Alwar Police have been identified as Ramveer Gurjar and Bhagwan Gurjar.

Khan has also alleged cow trade racket being carried on by some goons in the name of Gau Rakshaks and the "police works in cahoots with such gangs".

Hardline Hindu groups have gained prominence since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in 2014, and the protection of cows, considered holy by many in the Hindu-majority country, is a priority for them.

Indian police have arrested two Hindu farmers in connection with the killing of a Muslim man suspected of smuggling cows to a slaughterhouse, the investigating officer said on Wednesday.

The first was lodged after the pick-up van with cattle was traced at Govindgarh. "The pick-up truck they were using was stolen from Uttar Pradesh and its numberplate belonged to a motorcycle", Rana said, adding that Tahir and Javed would be apprehended soon.

The family of Umar had raised a hue and cry on Sunday at the Alwar hospital, where his body was kept. "We demand the arrest of all those responsible for his death, and compensation for his family", said Ali Mohammad, former sarpanch of Ummar's village of Ghatmika in Bharatpur.

He said that Tahir Khan had informed that on their way back home they were attacked by six to eight people. "The incident took place at night and police are acting on the case".
