Natalie Jade Seymour, 22, from Shefford, Bedfordshire, and Canadian, Abbey Gail Amisola, 27, from Winnipeg, were reportedly suffering from symptoms similar to a stomach upset on the night of their deaths.

Ms Seymour's mother Wendy Bowler, who lives in Bedfordshire, told MailOnline that she had received messages from her daughter saying that she and Ms Amisola were feeling unwell.

"The hotel manager was going up and down with drinks and told them they should go to a medical centre".

She added: "They chose to sleep it off but never woke up again, or that's what I hoped".

It is understood the women were found by a shocked staff member who raised the alarm.

Briton Natalie Seymour loved travelling, her family told newspapers. And then they were found by, I don't know.

Tragically staff at the hostel found them unresponsive a few hours later and the pair were taken to Kampot provincial hospital, but they could not be revived. A forensic examination is being prepared to determine the exact cause of death.

The two women met previous year in Bali and became instant friends Seymour's mother, Wendy, told the Mail.

A spokesperson for the guesthouse told that the Mail that they were "very nice women" and very close friends who were travelling together. They arrived together and went around together.

"They did have a lot of water in their room".

Recent photos from Natalie's Instagram account showed her travels around South East Asia - with her most recent snap taken on the Cambodian paradise island of Koh Thonsáy.

But police informed her of the pair's deaths at 5am on Tuesday.

Long Youpheng, political and public diplomacy officer at the United Kingdom embassy in Cambodia said: 'At the embassy we are aware of this case and our consular team is working out on possible supports and we are conducting further study in this case'.
