Edmunds has played through the left shoulder injury for most of the season but chose to take steps now to help in the future.

"He's been dealing all year with something", Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster said earlier Tuesday afternoon, before the announcement.

The Virginia Tech Hokies have ruled out safety Terrell Edmunds for the remainder of the season after the redshirt junior underwent surgery to fix a shoulder injury, head coach Justin Fuente confirmed on Tuesday. He's started all 10 games for Virginia Tech this season, registering 59 total tackles, 2 interceptions and 1.5 sacks. "After further evaluation, our medical staff, Terrell and his family all agreed that the most prudent course of action was to undergo surgery and begin the rehab process as soon as possible". The Hokies will host the Pitt Panthers on Saturday before closing out the regular season with an in-state battle against the Virginia Cavaliers. It has listed redshirt freshman Khalil Laddler as Edmunds' backup at free safety, but could also use touted true freshman Devon Hunter, senior Deon Newsome or nickle back Mook Reynolds at the position.
