Only recently, Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine was confirmed - after much speculation - as part of the star-studded 2017 I'm A Celebrity.

"I had to really think about this because the biggest thing is leaving my little boy", she explains.

"I am always telling Albert to give things a go even at his little age and so now I can say to everyone: "They asked me to do I'm A Celebrity and I did it". It's going to be his birthday whilst I am in the jungle and I spend all my time with him when I am not working on Corrie. Leaving Albert when I first go into the camp will be my trial...

Jennie, who is the 4-1 favourite, has been the most popular selection with leading bookmaker Coral, to win I'm a Celebrity.Get Me Out of Here!

But, Jennie went on to say she knew she had to seize this chance to be part of I'm A Celeb, which will once again be fronted by Ant and December. "But I knew he would have told me to do it".

The actress, who married partner Chris Farr in January, said that the mental health campaigner "always encouraged me".

Jennie continued: "He kept saying "Give it a go to find out if you are good enough or not". And so that was a big part of it".

She added: "I know Albert is going to have an unbelievable experience as he is coming to Australia with my husband and I. That will be lovely". "I am feeling excited about it all but also nervous".

A host of stars have arrived in Australia ahead of the new series of I'm A Celebrity. "If people are being mean I would stand up for someone but in the right way".

Boxer Amir Khan, Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine and Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas are among the stars going into the jungle for the reality TV series, along with Boris Johnson's father Stanley Johnson, Made In Chelsea's Georgia "Toff" Toffolo and Saturdays singer Vanessa White.

I'm A Celebrity starts Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
