Kansas star freshman Billy Preston will not play in Tuesday's game against Kentucky due to an internal investigation following a vehicle accident.

KU basketball coach Bill Self explained the suspension in a statement posted to the KU men's basketball's Twitter page before the game.

"There were no injuries but Billy's vehicle sustained damage", KU coach Bill Self said in a news release.

On Sunday, Self said on a teleconference that he had expected Preston to play against Kentucky.

There's some mighty curious language around that phrase "needed a clearer financial picture specific to the vehicle", which makes clear that this is an internal investigation and not an official legal one.

"Billy was informed right before our pre-game meal", Self said. Self described him as "disappointed and crushed" to learn he would not face Kentucky.

This is the second straight game for which Preston has been suspended, after he was forced to sit out for the Jayhawks season opener on Friday over missing both curfew and class. "Wee hop to have the situation resolved as soon as possible".

Without Preston, the Jayhawks are left with just two frontcourt players in their rotation - sophomore center Udoka Azubuike and sophomore forward Mitch Lightfoot.
