Kevin Phillips, who served the citizens of the Melfort constituency, passed away November 13. Prior to becoming an MLA, Phillips was Melfort's mayor.

Phillips died suddenly on Monday, according to a news release sent out by the provincial government. Phillips held various important positions in the Assembly, most recently serving on the Government's House leadership team as Deputy Whip.

He is survived by his wife April, his four children, and several grandchildren.

Wall says one of Phillips' many accomplishments for Melfort were his efforts to secure a new domestic violence shelter.

Both Premier Brad Wall and Interim Opposition Leader Nicole Sarauer shared their condolences.

Wall said it is a hard day and several other MLA's on both sides of the legislature paid condolences on the passing of Phillips.

Flags at the Saskatchewan Legislature have been lowered in honour of Phillips.

"Kevin worked hard for his constituents and served them faithfully and wholeheartedly".

Speaking in the legislature, Wall said,"Phillips led a life of security, family and community".

"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are also with the Saskatchewan Party caucus and staff for their loss of a colleague and dear friend". "Kevin was back in Regina yesterday, getting ready for another week of doing what he loved to do-representing the people of Melfort in the Assembly-so his passing was completely without warning".
