Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that India was being transformed at an "unprecedented scale", ANI reported.

Tusk noted that the two regional blocs can work together particularly through information-sharing to counter terrorist attacks as well as exchange of best practices in dealing with violent extremism.

Modi will address the Asean-India and East Asia summits on Tuesday and it is to be seen whether he touches upon the sensitive issue. "We reviewed the ground covered on various aspects of India-Japan ties and discussed ways to deepen cooperation between our economies and people", Modi tweeted. "Had a productive meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte".

On Sunday, India, Australia, Japan and the U.S. held their first meeting to give shape to the much talked about quadrilateral alliance to keep the Indo-Pacific region "free and open".

"The meetings were already running beyond schedule so, to avoid further delaying the ASEAN-UN Summit, it was decided that SFA (Cayetano) represent the President while he was meeting bilaterally with the other leaders", he said. China claims sovereignty over nearly all of the South China Sea, a huge source of hydrocarbons. "The befitting theme of "Shared Values, Common Destiny" for our 25th anniversary celebrations has been jointly celebrated. Our next 50 years will require deeper efforts on the next 3Cs: Community, Centrality, and Connectivity if we are to realize our ASEAN Vision by 2025", Duterte said at the end of a two-day ASEAN summit.

The East Asia Summit is a forum held annually by leaders of 18 countries including ASEAN nations India, the U.S. and Russian Federation.

Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Brunei are the members of the ASEAN. India's investment in Asean during the same period has been more than $40 billion.

In an address at the ASEAN-China summit, Mr. Li said his country was committed to strengthen ties with the 10-member grouping amid mounting concerns by several countries of the bloc over growing Chinese assertiveness in the South China Sea.

The prime minister is on a three-day trip to the Philippines.
