By incorporating augmented reality into a robot, Reach Robotics has created a new branch of gaming - one that totally immerses the player by putting their four-legged robots into battle in both the physical and virtual worlds with both iOS and Android compatibility. MekaMon represents a quantum leap forward in the leveraging of augmented reality.

The robot weighs 2.2 pounds with a dimension of 11.8 x 11.8 x 5.9 inches. Called MekaMon, the four-legged robots have AR capabilities that can be controlled by your smartphone.

Users can battle their robots in both the physical and virtual worlds using iOS or Android devices.

"As the world's first premium gaming robot, MekaMon fits neatly into the emerging category of smartphone-enabled, augmented reality products", added Adekunle.

Reach Robotics, the augmented reality gaming company developing the "future of gaming, ' today announced that its flagship product, MekaMon, the world's first real-life gaming robot, is now available on and for $299.95, as well as in Apple stores throughout the U.S. and United Kingdom at stores" opening tomorrow, November 16th. "Players can whip out their smartphone to battle their multi-functional, connected battlebots in the physical and virtual worlds at the same time".

And once there, you can convert your living room into a battleground, as it uses augmented reality that uses features of your room to work intelligently with and around obstacles like chairs, sofas and tables. It's a spider-like device which is upgradable and customizable with detachable legs, shields, and weapons. This not only gives users the chance to learn how to put together more complex coding commands but allows each person to define completely unique behaviors in their MekaMon.

We've had a play with these guys and, believe us, you want to nudge Santa to get you one (Apple clearly thinks so too, as the Mekamon will be making an appearance on its Christmas gift guide). As Silas says, "By fusing robotics, reality-bending technology and competitive play, we're offering players a new twist on hardware and video games - a premium robotics product that's easy to play but very hard to master". MekaMon is available in white and black models from Apple and for £299.95.
