Tanabe's novel tells the true story of Anita Florence Hemmings, who was the first African-American woman to graduate from Vassar College, and who later worked at the Boston Public Library. Now, Zendaya is adding to the girl power by collaborating with Witherspoon as a co-producer on an wonderful new film-and she'll star in it, too.

The actress has signed on to star in and produce the film, which will be based on Karin Tanabe's book The Gilded Years. Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter will be producing A White Lie alongside Zendaya. As a light-skinned woman, Hemmings was able to attend Vassar by passing as white. The film, titled A White Lie, will recount how Hemmings passed for a white woman in the late 19th-century, as well as her romance with a wealthy student from Harvard. And then there's A White Lie, which is much more A Great and Terrible Beauty and much less K.C. Undercover, much as Zendaya must also play a woman undercover-albeit a very different, and much more high stakes, version of undercover. She will also reprise her role as Michelle Jones in the Spider-Man sequel opposite Tom Holland.

The psychological thriller's script will be penned by Monica Beletsky.

Zendaya can also be seen in The Greatest Showman, co-starring with Hugh Jackman, which premieres on December 20.
