MoviePass has lowered its subscription price from $9.95 per month to $6.95 per month to see a free movie at participating theaters every, according to Variety. AMC Theatres reportedly shopped around their version of a monthly ticket price plan to the major studios, which Deadline heard was met with a cold response. The current average price for a movie ticket, according to National Association of Theater Owners, is $8.93 nationwide.

The annual fee for MoviePass is $89.95.

MoviePass says the offer, available now for a "limited time", will only last for one year, billed up front, and then revert back to $9.95 per month. Conditions apply, of course. Also, "Limit two per household".

Many in distribution and exhibition are shaken up by MoviePass, especially since it's an outside company aiming to dictate the market value of movie ticket prices.

The deal comes out just in time for the holidays and could be a great gift for those film lovers in your life. "At $6.95 per month, it's hard to compare it to anything else that provides as much entertainment for a full year", said Mitch Lowe, CEO of MoviePass in a statement.

"We are entering the prime movie-going season, so now is the ideal time to take advantage of the MoviePass movement", Mitch Lowe, CEO of MoviePass, said in a statement.
