Rumor: Will Jake Gyllenhaal Be the Next Batman?

Smart though, seems Warner Bros and "The Batman" helmer Matt Reeves are quietly considering replacements for if and when Affleck decides he's departing Gotham City.

Affleck was recently quoted as saying The Batman is a movie he is contemplating doing, even though it was thought he still has one film left on his deal. And the first name that has popped up is Jake Gyllenhaal.

Alright, I'm willing to give that a shot.

In his statement posted on Facebook, Affleck wrote: 'I am saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass and manipulate many women over decades'.

Gyllenhaal probably doesn't strike most people as the next coming of Bruce Wayne, but let's not pretend that he isn't a fantastic actor. Now they've pumped their brakes and you can see that in their slate.

With Justice League getting pummelled by critics. I'd say he should have won the Golden Globe that year for his performance, but Eddie Redmayne was fantastic as Stephen Hawking as well. At least Affleck recognizes that he sucks in the role and is willing to step down before they try to do a singular film centered around the character.

"I just don't think I would fit there". (Cavill auditioned for the scrapped Superman: Flyby.) Whether those two men would ever actually share the screen together as those characters remain to be seen, because we're still not entirely sure how (or if) Reeves' movie fits in with the franchise's ongoing narrative.

For obvious reasons, it's perfectly alright to disagree with this list, but keep in mind that expecting it to coincide with your personal opinions and observations will only leave you disappointed.

When you have the opportunity to play Batman in a movie, it is hard not to want to take home some souvenirs from the set.

Affleck's exit was reportedly decided upon back in February but was being held back for public relations purposes in the run-up to "Justice League's" release this week. Criticizing him is only going to keep him around longer.
