NBC has renewed the critically acclaimed comedy for a third season.

The series was originally ordered straight to series for the 2015 season and has become one of the few breakout comedies on broadcast networks in recent years.

The half-hour comedy from Parks and Rec creator Mike Schur has been a critical hit since it debuted as a midseason show in January.

The Good Place joins This Is Us and the reboot of Will and Grace as the three scripted shows NBC has already picked up for the 2018-2019 TV season.

The Good Place is now on hiatus, but returns for the second half of season 2 on Thursday, January 4 at 8:30/7:30c. Like its first and second seasons, the third installment of the sitcom starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson will consist of 13 episodes.

In addition to Bell, Harper and Danson, the series also stars Jameela Jamil, D'Arcy Carden and Manny Jacinto. It's averaging a 2.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.2 million viewers overall in "live plus seven day" averages from Nielsen Media Research.

Given the ratings bump between season 1 and season 2, it's not entirely surprising that NBC renewed The Good Place since it seems to be growing a devoted fan base.
