The good news is that the New York Yankees' star is expected to be ready before spring training.

According to the Yankees, Judge underwent "a loose-body removal and cartilage clean-up, " performed by Dr. Neil ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Monday.

Judge, 25, injured his shoulder on a slide in the second half, though he consistently denied that it bothered him.

Judge was also in the running for MVP, but lost out to Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve. Judge regularly abbreviated any conversations about what he was feeling in his shoulder, describing the wrap as mostly for maintenance.

Although this surgery seems minor - it was arthroscopic, so they didn't have to cut Judge open - every surgery is a risk, especially when it involves a major joint like the shoulder.

Judge had a historic rookie campaign.

The 25-year-old Judge hit.284 with 52 homers and 114 RBIs in 155 games this season, helping NY make it to the AL Championship Series, where they lost to the eventual World Series champion Astros.
