BJP fifth list includes Gujarati actor, Congress defector

The BJP today released its fifth list of 13 candidates for the second phase of Assembly polls in Gujarat, dropping two sitting MLAs.

BJP has declared the fifth list of candidates featuring 13 names for the upcoming assembly elections due in 2 phases on 9 & 14 December.

Party sources said the NCP got upset after the Congress announced a candidate from Kutiyana constituency in Porbandar, which is now with the NCP; its sitting MLA is Kandhal Jadeja.

The list has four Patel candidates, three from Scheduled Castes, four OBCs and two Kshatriyas. She is the daughter-in-law of the parliamentarian from Panchmahal, Prabhatsinh Chauhan.

The party has removed sitting legislator Lalji Mer as its candidate from Dhandhuka and instead fielded Kalubhai Dabhi. BJP national president Amit Shah addressed a public meeting in Bhavnagar and thereafter accompanied Gujarat BJP chief Jitubhai Vaghani as he filed his nomination papers.

The name of Gujarat minister Vallabhbhai Kakadia is also included in the list who will fight from Thakkarbap Nagar.

Unjha is a stronghold of Kadva Patels, a sub-sect of Patidaars, and Narayan Patel is a strong leader of the community.

With just a day left to file nominations for the first phase of.the Gujarat Assembly elections, the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has chose to contest solo. Kanodia enjoys a fan following due to his Gujarati cinema star father and uncle Naresh and Mahesh Kanodia.

Prahlad Patel, who had joined the BJP ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls after resigning as Congress MLA, did not get a ticket from Vijapur constituency in Mehsana which he represented.
