With just seconds to spare before the train would have likely crushed the woman, the the protective services officers (PSOs) ran to her aid and pulled her to safety.

Former PSO Steven Goldman told a press conference he and two colleagues had been trying to settle a group of young men at the other end of the platform when they saw the woman crossing the tracks.

As she reaches the platform a friend tries to help her get up onto the platform and out of danger but can not manage.

Terrifying footage shows the men hauling the woman to safety just seconds before the train passes by. She appeared to be drunk and unaware of the approaching train.

"It's the closest I've seen someone getting hit by a train", Constable Ben Mitchell said.

"I don't think she realised the seriousness of what she had done and how close she had came (sic) to being killed on the day", he said in the video released by police.

The woman, who police said was intoxicated, has been charged for entering a restricted area.

Victoria Police have not revealed the exact date, time or location of the rescue.
