A Terrytown woman is accused of throwing her infant son at his father's feet, fracturing the baby's skull, police said.

Authorities were informed about the incident after the father took the newborn to the Children's Hospital in New Orleans on Thursday and the 26-day-old baby was diagnosed with a fracture of his right temporal bone.

Heidy Rios, 24, of Terrytown, was arrested Friday (Nov. 24) and booked with cruelty to a juvenile, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Nola.com/The Times-Picayune reports the couple had been arguing, when Rios threw the 3-week-old baby at the father's feet, telling the man, 'take your f***ing son'.

Physicians contacted the Sheriff's Office to investigate the injury.

When taken into custody Friday, Rios said she did not know how the newborn got injured and that she was not holding him during the argument.

Her son's head injuries have been described as non-life-threatening, according to the sheriff's office.

However, she later told detectives that she may have dropped the child during the dispute, the newspaper reported.

Rios is being held in Jefferson Parish Correctional Centre without bond.
