Illinois' toughest road test to date ended in a loss on Tuesday night at Wake Forest in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Kipper Nichols hit a 3-pointer with 9 seconds left in the half to cut it to one.

After the Illini closed to within one, Wake Forest had another spurt, aided by a weird six-point possession that included a pair of IL fouls, for a 64-55 edge. "They had a physical presence all game, but we met that physicality and were strong with the ball. I think everyone that stepped on the court contributed something and it was a good team win for us, something that we can build upon".

IL entered the game ranked fifth in the NCAA in turnovers forced (21 per game) and scoring 28.7 points per game off turnovers.

Wake Forest had three players score in double figures in addition to Crawford.

"I liked our fight and I liked our competitiveness, but we probably shot too many 3's tonight", Underwood said. Childress did his damage in 23 minutes off the bench. IL was led in scoring by Aaron Jordan and his career high 20 points. He finished with two points (1-3 FG, 0-2 3FG) and six rebounds.

"AJ's not leading the country in three point field goal shooting for nothing", Underwood said. "When you game plan for him, and then he's not in the game, it's going to impact our team a little bit".

UP NEXT: The Deacons will wrap up their current three-game homestand on Saturday, December 2 against Richmond.

IL finished 39 percent from the field and 12-29 on 3-point attempts. "We weren't getting the ball to the interior of their zone and combine that with the turnovers and the fouls we were committing in the backcourt and they were parading to the free throw line".

Mark Alstork scored the first eight points for the Illini before he came out of the game with an apparent slight injury.

STAT OF THE NIGHT: Wake Forest's Doral Moore established a school record for most consecutive field goals (16) after making his first six shots. Overall, the Demon Deacons made 24 of 31 foul shots while the Illini were 13 of 14 at the line. "We'll continue to try to clean the other stuff up".
