On Wednesday, five-star defensive end Brenton Cox (6-foot-5, 247 pounds, Stockbridge, Ga.) announced that he had decommitted from Ohio State.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound prospect out of Stockbridge, Georgia, initially committed to the Buckeyes over the in-state Georgia Bulldogs back in April.

Rated the No. 2 strongside defensive end in the 2018 recruiting class in the 247Sports composite rankings, Cox's decommitment comes at a awful time for the Buckeyes considering they were anticipating the defensive end was going to enroll early. According to 247Sports, Georgia and Alabama are now both major players for Cox following his decommit from the Buckeyes. Jones also has been recruited by Alabama, however, and has taken a visit to see the Crimson Tide, as well, churning rumors about his commitment status.

An Under Armour All-American, Cox is the 22nd-ranked recruit in the class of 2018, second-ranked strong-side defensive end and the fifth-ranked player overall in the state of Georgia. The coaches are after defensive end prospects Tyreke Smith and Jayson Oweh to fill the spot left by Cox.
