Federation Internationale de Football Association says it has lifted Kuwait's ban from global soccer.

Infantino will be present at a press conference in the Jaber International Stadium soon to officially announce the end of the ban.

Organisers of this month's Gulf Cup in Qatar look set to imminently announce whether the event can go ahead, with prospects given a huge boost by Federation Internationale de Football Association lifting its suspension of Kuwait after two years in the sporting wilderness.

"We have done many things but this is the beginning of a new phase".

FIFA said in a statement on Wednesday the lifting of the ban followed official confirmation "the Kuwait Parliament has adopted a new Sports Law of Kuwait, which replaces all the previous ones and has been amended in order to be fully compliant with the FIFA Statutes and requirements".

The ban proved so controversial that it led to the resignation of former minister of information and youth Sheikh Salman Humoud Al-Sabah in February ahead of a no confidence vote against him by the country's parliament. The ban had already prevented Kuwaiti clubs from participating in the continental AFC Cup and the Kuwaiti National Team from playing in the FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualifiers and the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

Kuwait remains suspended by the International Olympic Committee.
