Mike Riley just can't quit Oregon State. Riley left Corvallis after a 12-year run following the 2014 season for Nebraska, where he went 19-19 over the past three seasons and was sacked November 25. When Riley returned to OSU in 2003, Smith was his graduate assistant that season.

Three years after moving on to Nebraska after two stints as the head coach of the Beavers, Riley is coming back "home" to Oregon State as an assistant head coach without an actual position assignment under first-year coach Jonathan Smith.

Riley compiled a 93-80 record over 14 seasons as Oregon State head coach. I'm excited to surround our players with outstanding men! "His commitment to detail, which is an especially valuable trait for a special teams coach, and knowledge of the high school programs in the region make him a tremendous asset in recruiting".

Smith, the former Washington offensive coordinator, was named the Oregon State coach last week. Lindgren also held that job at San Jose State and Northern Arizona.

Regarding coaching again, however, Riley said: "I still feel young and have the energy to do it". "He has an impressive resume of developing quarterbacks in this conference".

Mike Riley is headed home.

Riley isn't the only former Husker staff member heading back to Corvallis.
