Super Eagles to play World Cup warm-up against England

Iceland experienced defender Ari Skulason has admitted he did not want his country to be drawn against either the Super Eagles of Nigeria or Croatia, but was delighted to get Argentina in their 2018 World Cup group.

"We plan to play a friendly against England in June, before the World Cup", he said, adding that the venue and other details of the match were still to be worked out.

The FA have yet to comment on the claims and it was thought England would play just two warm up games against Netherlands and Italy in March ahead of their World Cup opener against Tunisia but not according to Sanusi. Iceland's reward for becoming the smallest nation to qualify for the World Cup was drawing a tough group, featuring Croatia and Nigeria as well as twice world champions Argentina.

Both countries have clashed once at this level, in 1995, when England won 1-nil at Wembley.

Sanusi added that the Eagles would play at least one friendly before Russian Federation 2018 in the country's capital Abuja to show the team's appreciation for the support of both the Nigerian government and people.
