One Upper Peninsula hospital has been awarded the Top Rural Hospital award by the Economic Alliance for Michigan (EAM), a nonprofit group made of Michigan's largest employers and unions and a Washington D.C. based organization, The Leapfrog Group. This marks the hospital's second year in a row for receiving this recognition.

MidMichigan Medical Center in Gladwin is one of only 18 hospitals in the country to receive the Top Rural Hospital award.

"Each year roughly only two percent of hospitals in the country receive a Leapfrog Top Hospital award", said Bret Jackson, president, EAM.

Many areas of hospital care are considered when establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care, and the hospital's capacity to prevent medication errors.

"OSF St. Francis has earned this award five out of the last six years - simply an fantastic feat". "We congratulate the boards, management, clinicians, staff and volunteers whose dedication makes all the difference".

The Top Hospital award is given to three categories that include: Teaching, general, rural and children's hospitals.
