Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Thursday that the Packers put King, their top draft pick this year, on injured reserve a day earlier because he needs surgery on his ailing left shoulder - an injury that has bothered him all season and dates to his college days at the University of Washington. However, McCarthy said Goodson will be a "long shot" to play against Cleveland as he remains in the "trial-return" phase with a hamstring injury.

The Green Bay Packers' cornerbacks are all kinds of hurt heading into a must-win game at the winless Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

To take his roster spot, the Packers promoted Demetri Goodson of the Physically Unable to Perform list. "He's been dealing with it for quite some time, playing with the harness and trying to gut it out. It just obviously got to a point there where it was time to do more scans and things like that, and the decision has been made for surgery". I think it speaks volumes. That's how the season goes and the challenges all teams undergo with injuries.

Knowing it's a five game march to a possible playoff berth, the team took only the first step by beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in overtime last Sunday and the 0-12 Browns are simply next in line.

Nearly to a man they talked about not looking at Cleveland's record, only the game film and they see National Football League players putting up a strong fight but without the results.

It leaves the Packers with two experienced healthy cornerbacks - Damarious Randall and Josh Hawkins. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound cornerback missed the Baltimore game before trying to play through it against Pittsburgh on November 26. For most of the year, Randall moved inside to the slot in the nickel.

During Saturday's walkthrough, the Packers opened a three-week window in which to activate Rodgers from injured reserve.

"With our situation in the secondary right now, we just felt that gave us the best lineup on the field", Capers said.
