An officer in New Jersey was able to capture a rare event that lit up the sky.

Hamilton Township police Sgt. Michael Virga's dashcam captured the fireball streaking across the sky around 3:09 a.m. Saturday, the Mays Landing-based police department said.

The American Meteor Society tweeted Thursday that it has received 133 reports about the fireball. There was no word on if the fireball was actually a meteor, a piece of falling space debris, or something else.

AMS added that aa bolide is a special type of fireball which explodes in a bright terminal flash at it's end "often with visible fragmentation".

Scientists say it's about the same brightness of the planet Venus, as seen in the morning or evening sky.
