Rhodes' replacement, the 49-year-old Pamment has been employed with New Zealand Cricket as fielding specialist and its development programmes.

The Mumbai Indians will return as defending champions in the eleventh edition of the IPL that will be held in April-May next year. He further said: "Jonty has been a pillar of strength and energy for MI". However, the actual reason for the ousting of Rhodes is not yet known but he did an extremely job while he was there with the team.

On the other hand, Pamment said that it was an honour to join the Mumbai Indians set-up.

The IPL franchise have brought in James Pamment as their new fielding coach. "His contribution can not be valued in words", Akash Ambani was quoted as saying in the release. Wishing him the best for his future, Ambani added that the team respects his decision.

Throughout the ebbs and flows of the franchise, Jonty Rhodes's contribution to the Mumbai team has been vast.

"We are happy to introduce James Pamment to the MI Paltan (MI Fan Army)". James is an experienced coach at the global level having worked with New Zealand Cricket as fielding specialist and development. "Over the last nine years, MI has set sporting benchmarks both on and off the field, and personally it has been fantastic to work with a set of individuals like Sachin [Tendulkar], Rohit [Sharma], Anil [Kumble], Ricky [Ponting], Mahela [Jayawardene] and all the support staff and players over the years". He has instilled a brilliant work culture among the players, on and off the field, and the results are out there for everyone to see.

"The teams' focus on young talent and persisting with them is something I believed in and it was heartening to see the players buying into my methods. Mumbai Indians' is a champion outfit and I am grateful to the team's ownership on giving me this opportunity", he said.
