Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross saw his injury-plagued rookie season come to an end on Wednesday, and apparently the ailment that landed him on injured reserve was initially a surprise to the team.

Lewis said the shoulder injury Ross has is not related to the shoulder surgery he underwent before the NFL Draft. Lewis told SiriusXM NFL Radio that Ross had been concealing the injury before finally "coming clean" with the team. If he was injured significantly, that would help to explain why Ross seemingly was not performing well enough to get on the field but, in the same breath, it seems freakish that the Bengals would not understand or know this prior to the dog and pony show of declaring him healthy while deactivating him weekly.

Details are fuzzy at this point but Ross's shoulder injury appears to be in the opposite shoulder from the one previously regarded as a risk.

Ross was thought to be a healthy scratch in certain situations this season, so this revelation makes more sense.
