According to multiple reports, the New York Giants are now slotting Dave Gettleman as the man most likely to take over as the National Football League franchise's new general manager.

This is according to both Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

"Several sources informed of their GM search say the Giants do have an early favorite: former Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman", Rapoport reported Sunday.

Gettleman, who spent four seasons as the Panthers general manager, was sacked following the 2016 campaign.

Gettleman, of course, having served as the Giants' Pro Personnel Director and the Senior Pro Personnel Analyst until 2013. "Many around the league believe he is the favorite to land the job, but the Giants would like to speak with others, as their scheduled interview with [John] Dorsey indicated".

In Carolina, Gettleman took a struggling team that was in a disastrous salary cap situation and turned them into a perennial contender in the NFC. The Giants were set to interview Dorsey at some point this week. But with their preference being to hire a GM before hiring their next head coach, they may opt to move quickly on Gettleman.
