The biggest figures and institutions in entertainment have established a commission to be chaired by Anita Hill that intends to combat sexual misconduct and inequality in the industry in the wake of the huge wave of revelations spurred by allegations against Harvey Weinstein.

Kennedy was among the top Hollywood executives the met to convene the commission, along with Nike Foundation founder and co-chair Maria Eitel, Del Shaw partner Nina Shaw, and venture captialist Freada Kapor Klein.

"The fact that so many industry leaders - across film, television, music, digital, unions, agencies ... and guilds - came together, in one room, to explore solutions speaks to a new era", Kennedy said.

In the face of the onslaught, Hollywood appears motivated to make substantive changes, and to do so it's brought out the big guns: according to NBC News, U.S. attorney Anita Hill will head a special commission of industry leaders created to get to the root of the problem.

Hill gained notoriety in 1991 when she brought allegations of sexual harassment against now-Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearings.

Anita Hill attends the 2017 Glamour Women of the Year Awards at Kings Theatre on November 13, 2017, in NY.

It was founded after "Star Wars" producer Kathleen Kennedy and others called for a meeting on issues of sexual harassment and inequality that have captured the attention of the country under the banner of the #MeToo movement, founded more than a decade ago by activist Tarana Burke.

"I'm proud to be leading this newly-formed Commission on a long overdue journey to adopt best practices and to create institutional change that fosters a culture of respect and human dignity throughout the industry", Hill said in a statement.

Among the dozens of industry giants involved with launching the commission were Ari Emanuel, co-chair of William Morris Endeavor; Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of Disney; and Dawn Hudson, the CEO of the Academy Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which puts on the Oscars.
