"I would request you to declare a comprehensive special financial package for the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep to undertake rehabilitation, provide financial assistance to families of deceased fishermen and for the overall development of the coastal region, including steps for the prevention of such a tragedy, to the extent possible". Kanyakumari MP and minister of state for shipping and finance Pon Radhakrishnan told this to reporters here after visiting the place where the prime minister would be landing after chairing discussions with officials on Sunday.

PM Modi would then leave for Thiruvananthapuram.

The prime minister had drawn flak for not visiting the cyclone-hit areas even though over 60 people died in the coastal belt. Huge crowd had gathered to meet Rahul at Poonthura and Vizhinjam where Ockhi wreaked havoc.

"Fishermen from #Thoothur, #Chinnathurai expressed their satisfaction for the search operation conducted by #IGS Vaibhav @IndiaCoastGuard on missing fishermen from Kanyakumari dist".

The Latin Catholic Church had earlier demanded that the prime minister should visit the affected areas.

The opposition leader also pointed out the need to construct seawalls and groynes in the vulnerable sea coasts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Cyclone Okchi has claimed over 65 lives, majority fishermen.

Search operations will henceforth be extended from Kochi coast to Goa since more bodies were recovered from the area in the past five days.
