A military hero with no known family was honored Saturday by several hundred strangers at a church in Indianapolis in a show of support.

What they did know: The 68-year-old served as a marine in Vietnam and earned a Purple Heart. It's unknown how he got to Indiana.

Indiana Funeral Care organized Saturday's gathering by spreading the word on social media.

"It was wonderful when I came here for Glenn, I was expecting to be the only person here that knew him".

"Here's a man that died alone with no family". "It shows me that no matter when you served, who you served with or where you served, we're here to support you". "But I'd have to say with all the people lined out the door and everything else, he has a pretty extensive and impressive family", said Steve Gore, a post-traumatic stress disorder survivor who attended the funeral. Burial will take place privately at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Indiana. So I decided we are going to adopt Mr. Shelton.
