Volkswagen Offering Performance Passat GT

Like the Atlas SUV, the Passat GT was designed at VW's Engineering and Planning Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and will be built at the factory.

The special model, which starts at $29,940 including destination bowed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. "Combining a local perspective with our global engineering expertise allows us to create vehicles that meet the needs and desires of customers here".

Volkswagen's improving results in the USA have been bolstered by its expanded sport-utility line-up, but the maker is also providing its loyal Passat owners something new for 2018: the Passat GT.

It will be available in four exterior colors - Pure White, Reflex Silver, Platinum Grey and Deep Black, Volkswagen said.

Like every 2018 Passat, the GT will come with Volkswagen's new six-year, 72,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that can be transferred to a subsequent buyer.

The new Passat GT will be powered by Volkswagen's 3.6-liter V-6, producing 280 hp and 258 pounds-feet of torque on regular gas. It's paired with a six-speed DSG automatic transmission, with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The Passat GT is rated at 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

The look of on the outside matches the performance under the hood. It borrows the R-Line® bumper and adds a honeycomb grille, GT badge, and a red accent line, reminiscent of the high-performance Golf GTI. The GT comes with standard LED headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights. Additionally, the car's black roof is complimented by black mirror caps and black window and door trim. The auto also receives GT badging in the grille, back of the vehicle and inside. The rear styling accents include a black spoiler, black bumper trim and a double exhaust.

Two-tone, 19-inch "Tornado" wheels and red brake calipers fill the wheel wells, and a sport suspension delivers a better stance.

The Passat GT features a load of technology including the option for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Much of the interior is dark, with a piano black center console, vent trim, black headliner, decorated by carbon fiber trim and GT aluminum sill plates. The GT seats are black leatherette with gray inserts and contrast stitching. Dual-zone climate control and an 8-way power driver's seat are also included.

Automakers can't just offer performance without some technological goodies.
