Officials say he has made over 20 prank 911 calls all over the country, but it's believed that the most recent call was made after an online gaming argument.

The call prompted a SWAT team to surround a Wichita residence and shoot an innocent man who answered the door. The Associated Press reports that Barriss was sentenced to two years in prison for that stunt, but was released in January 2017.

Police confirm Barriss was jailed in 2015 for making a bomb threat to a television station, and at least two people who know Barriss say his Twitter handle was @SWAuTistic.

Tyler Raj Barriss, 25, was arrested in South L.A. on Friday on an arrest warrant issued by Sedgwick County, Kan., authorities. Barriss told 911 that Finch's address in Wichita is his own and that his mother and father were arguing that led him to shooting his own father in the head.

In reality, there was no hostage situation, and the caller had no connection to the Finch family. That phone call between Barriss and police was posted online by the Wichita Police Department.

"I'm just pointing the gun at them making sure they stay in the closet, my mom and my little brother", said the caller. "I already poured gasoline all over the house".

Ramsey said the officers who responded reported that Finch's hands went up and down around his waistband before he was shot. That's when an officer on the north side of the home fired one round, striking the man. Wichita Deputy Police Chief Troy Livingston has said Finch raised and lowered his hands after stepping onto the porch. However, footage from a police body camera shows that the officer was positioned across the street from the Finch home behind the cover of several vehicles.

The man who was shot was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead Thursday night.

Green says the incident is tragic, and despite training and due diligence, no law enforcement agency is immune.

"Please let me see my son's lifeless body", she wrote in a letter dated Tuesday.

Following quickly after the Finch killing, another Wichita police officer almost killed a 9-year-old girl in her family's home Saturday night. "He screamed and then they shot him". "We want Andy's side of the story to be told", his mother said.

The FBI estimates that roughly 400 cases of swatting occur annually, with some using caller ID spoofing to disguise their number. "The irresponsible actions of a prankster put people and lives at risk". Richard Wistocki, with the Naperville, Illinois, Police Department. Livingston did not name that officer but said he's a 7-year veteran of the department.

The swatting incident has struck home for gamers since it affects them directly, Winningham said. "If the false police call had not been made, we would not have been there". "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as well as with the officer". The victim went out his front door, and after a few seconds, was shot by a SWAT officer.
