Tree limbs and power lines could be impacted from the heavy weight of the ice.

The latest forecast calls for up to an inch of snow in northeast Arkansas with lesser amounts to the south and west. The umbrella comes in handy as well for Friday night plans with plentiful showers. Highs will only be in the upper-single digits.

As the low pressure system moves up from the south, it will keep snow ongoing into the afternoon hours. Sunday a weak front will bring a period of light snow to eastern Montana along with a brief reinforcing shot of colder air.

Gusting winds may also cause power outages. Additional mountain accumulations of less than 4 inches are expected. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible. A glaze of ice is possible in areas, especially bridges and overpasses which will cool faster. "This evening an arctic front will move through". Additionally, any wet surfaces will rapidly freeze as a sharp temperature drop of 30 to 40 degrees occurs in just a few hours.

The region will experience temperature highs in the low 60's on Thursday followed by rain and freezing temperatures Thursday night into Friday morning.

Officially, 0.01 inches of precipitation was recorded at the Dane County Regional Airport on Wednesday, boosting Madison's January and 2018 total to 0.04 inches, 0.37 inches below normal. Parts of Calloway, Marshall, Trigg, Lyon, Christian and Hopkins Counties in Kentucky are expected to get close to a quarter inch of ice. The winter weather is expected to continue through the morning. Breezy, with a north wind 14 to 21 miles per hour.

Despite temperatures in the mid 30s to begin the day, ground temperatures were below freezing and light drizzle was coming down, leading to very slippery spots.

Snow was expected to develop later in the morning in the Topeka area. "But the later they can come in the more it will allow that to happen". Latest data coming in is trending towards a faster changeover to snow and wintry mix.
