Sanchez left out of Arsenal squad

Man City were willing to pay £60m for a Sanchez back in the summer when he had less than a year left on his contract, which makes their reluctance to make a £30m bid - the amount Arsenal want - when he has six months left makes very little sense indeed.

Guardiola's bid to buy Sanchez collapsed at the end of the summer transfer window and City were favourites to land him this time around but the club are apparently unwilling to meet Arsenal's reported £35 million ($48 million, 39 million euros) asking price.

Mkhitaryan has since returned to the fold, but United are aware of Wenger's admiration of the attacking midfielder and his involvement in the Sanchez pursuit could hold the key to United beating City to the forward.

"Don't read too much into it, because even I don't know really what way it will go".

"He's being vague at the moment, the situation is not completely decided one way or the other". It is likely that the wantaway striker will be playing for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, with just the small matter of "when" to be ironed out, and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand seems to think so.

United have a lot of creative players in the final third, but none is as influential as Sanchez.

Wenger then said that he hopes the situation is quickly resolved.

In the tweet below, Ferdinand explains that he would love to see Sanchez join United and that he will personally direct the Chilean to Old Trafford to help push a move. "So he has got more opportunities to win trophies there".

Wenger admitted on Friday that Sanchez would not be signing a new deal, paving the way for him to leave the club in the current transfer window, adding that a bidding war could help Arsenal.
