Police charge a woman after she allegedly drove her vehicle onto a busy Brisbane bike and pedestrian boardwalk, recording a blood alcohol reading more than three times the legal limit.

The boardwalk was crowded with pedestrians and cyclists as she drove at least 200m along it, with police having to push it into a nearby driveway.

South Bank security discovered the vehicle during one of their regular patrols of the busy thoroughfare for pedestrians and cyclists.

Police said the woman, aged 40, came from Atkinsons Dam about 60km away, where she had allegedly been drinking alcohol.

The woman allegedly told police she had begun drinking at home before continuing to drink during the trip to Brisbane, while her dog also accompanied her in the auto. The legal blood-alcohol limit in Queensland under 0.05.

The woman, who is now facing three charges, was unlicensed and her Mitsubishi Magna was found to be unregistered.

She is also believed to have been banned from driving three times.

She is due to appear in court on February 13.
