It's our first look at the exclusive Range Rover coupe, which is still hidden underneath substantial masking in these images.

To prove it, he said, the designer pointed towards the Range Rover SVAutobiography that sees the British vehicle maker go head-to-head with the Bentley Bentayga for the first time. Basically, there seems to be very little room for a rear door.

When questioned as to whether or not the two-door Evoque would live on when the baby Range Rover is replaced, McGoven replied: "There's probably less market for a two-door [Evoque] and given that we have a cabriolet there's no need".

It was the automaker's design boss Gerry McGovern that hinted at a two-door Range Rover past year in LA, and that's when the possibility of an SVO-built Range Rover Coupe first dawned on us. Our exclusive image (below) previews how it could look when it arrives.

According to McGovern, the company sees the "natural progression for Range Rover to become more tailored, more bespoke, refined and luxurious".

McGovern went on to hint the auto would be developed and built by Jaguar Land Rover's SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) arm, which specialises in limited edition models, bespoke developments, and vehicle restorations.

Upmarket move aside, the two-door incarnation of the Range Rover pays homage to the heritage of the terrain tamer.

There was the two-door CSK limited edition, which launched in 1991 and paid tribute to the original designer Charles Spencer King.
