Ozil's future has been the subject of speculation for some months, with the Germany international's deal expiring at the end of the season.

Wenger has reportedly been more optimistic about his chances of persuading Ozil to sign a new deal to remain in London and it is believed that he will use funds to buy new attacking players this month in order to convince his remaining star name to stay.

Mesut Ozil is close to signing a new contract with Arsenal, according to reports.

"I would say that our fans today know that Sanchez will not extend his contract, and they have accepted that idea", Wenger said, as quoted by FourFourTwo.

Arsenal appear ready to sell Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United, most likely in a deal that includes Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving to Emirates Stadium, in order to avoid losing the forward for nothing when his contract runs out. "We want him to stay", he said.

Arsene Wenger gets a hell of a lot of criticism from Arsenal fans, especially on this website, but the fact remains that he has worked wonders for our club over his 21 years at the helm.

"It's easy for me to empathise or say good things about a guy like Arsene Wenger because I can't really understand what there is to say that is not good about him".

Sanchez, who is soon to be a free agent, is now nearly certain to follow the same path Van Persie did, but Wenger feels the situation is completely different this time around. "That's what we're trying to do".

"Personally, I'm very attached to Theo because he's intelligent, has complete integrity".

"He scored important goals in big games, you talk about FA Cup finals, Champions League games, local derbies". "I don't think [that it will happen in January], no". "He's always welcome here".
