Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan today met with his probable replacement, Armen Sargsyan (no relation), who was selected as a candidate for the job by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).

"Serzh Sargsyan has offered Armen Sarkissian to put forward his candidacy for the president of Armenia", said the report.

President Sargsyan's term in office ends this year and according to recent changes to the constitution, the new president will be selected by the country's parliament, and not by popular vote. It is expected, that the National Assembly where RPA holds majority will elect the fourth president by March 9, 2018, and the new prime minister after April 9.

Eduard Sharmazanov, Armenian parliament vice-speaker and a member of the party's executive board, said Thursday night after the party board meeting that the chosen person has a rich working record, speaks many languages, known in Armenian communities worldwide and will be able to present the country overseas.
