The feature was introduced in the United States and now the selfie feature is available for users based in India.

The Google Arts & Culture iOS app still is the top free app download under the "Free" category in the App Store, as Canadians have been longing for the "museum selfie" mode, which matches your face to a painting in a museum. Your selfie will be delivered to Google and the system will match all possible options before presenting to you the best three artwork that matches your face specifications.

The app is, of course, based on facial recognition - users upload their photos by taking a smartphone selfie, and then an algorithm tries to find a good match among the various works of art that have been scanned into Google's massive library. As a user, you need to focus your face for a selfie from within the app and capture it.

In Google's own announcement of its Arts & Culture app, the company was keen to note that "Google doesn't use your selfie for anything else and only keeps it for the time it takes to search for matches".

Through the new feature, the application connects users to more than 6,000 exhibitions, from more than 1,500 museums.

"We created an experiment that matches the selfie with art from the collections of museums on Google Arts & Culture - and over the past few days, people have taken more than 30 million selfies".
