The controversial decision caused mass outcry and led to MPs calling for an "exclusion zone" which would block the black-cab rapist from Greater London.

A spokesperson said: "The Metropolitan Police Service is investigating an allegation of non-recent sexual assault which was reported to police in January 2018".

"The incident is reported to have taken place in 1997".

'Enquiries by officers from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command are ongoing'.

'No arrests have been made.

The victim came forward to police earlier this month.

The move comes in the wake of the Parole Board's ruling that Worboys is to be released, after serving less than 10 years in prison for 19 offences against 12 victims, including the rape of one.

The Sun today revealed that the black cap rapist is back in London, where the vast majority of his sickening attacks on women took place.

More than 100 complaints were linked to Worboys.

At the weekend the convicted sex attacker was secretly driven to HMP Belmarsh from Wakefield Prison in West Yorkshire in preparation for his release.
