Cathriona White an ex-girlfriend of popular comedian Jim Carrey committed suicide by drug overdosing in 2015.

It comes after the "Ace Ventura" star filed a countersuit against his accusers previous year, claiming that they were trying to extort him.

A spokesman for Jim Carrey confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter this week that the case against Carrey had been dismissed on January 25, but refused to comment any firther.

White's body was discovered by friends visiting her rented Sherman Oaks, California home in September 2015 - two days after the third anniversary of her father's death. His countersuit claimed that the pair were attempting to extort him due to his fame and money, and that White herself had threatened to leak false information to the press that he had given her a number of sexually transmitted diseases.

According to the newspaper, Carrey's lawyer Raymond Boucher found that White had forged a 2011 medical record that showed she had no STDs before meeting Carrey.

'We are clearly not alleging that Jim Carrey was selling drugs out of the back of his pickup truck and was therefore not marketing or selling in the traditional sense of what that word would bring to mind, ' said Sweetman and Burton's lawyer in May 2017.

Before committing suicide, she wrote on Twitter: "Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest".

Jim Carrey attends The Funeral of Cathriona White on October 10, 2015 in Cappawhite, Tipperary, Ireland. I will not give in a second time to these same fraudulent charges initiated by Cat's husband in name but not substance Mark Burton, and her estranged mother.

"Nor am I responsible for what these desperate characters have inadvertently unearthed about the woman I adored".
