CASTLEFORD TIGERS' long wait for an away win against St Helens continues after they were hammered 46-6 in Betfred Super League round one last night.

It is a century and a half since Queen Victoria granted the charter that incorporated the municipal borough of St Helens, bringing together the townships of Eccleston, Parr, Sutton and Windle. He added another try and an assist in the second half.

Barba scored two tries and helped create four others fromn fullback as Saints gained some revenge for last October's heart-breaking semi-final defeat. Then in the next set, James Roby powered through the middle, Jon Wilkin, Barba and Roby again kept the ball moving and Zeb Taia was on hand to go over. Barba's kick seemed to be going dead, but Alex Walmsley batted it back and Jonny Lomax touched down.

The England prop, fresh from signing a new long-term contract, immediately made his mark after Castleford full-back Ben Roberts, deputising less than impressively for the suspended Zak Hardaker, fumbled the ball on his own 10-metre line.

Jake Trueman was preferred at stand-off to Jamie Ellis for Cas, who did not risk Joe Wardle due to a "niggle" picked up in training.

Lomax landed a 40-20 in the next set, Tigers were penalised and from that Percival powered over from a show and go by Barba and the conversion made it 22-0.

Castleford came out with more objective in the second half, but without really threatening.

In a tour de force, Barba popped up across the pitch, setting up three tries before the break as well as his...

Barba's pass nearly set up a late score for Regan Grace, but -after Child indicated a try - Bentham spotted a hand in touch.

Even so, Saints added back-to-back tries in the final moments as Taia scored his second and Percival completed a hat-trick to end a miserable night for Tigers.

As the visitors fell away badly, Taia took advantage of some weak defence to score his second try before Barba broke away to get Percival over for hat-trick, with Richardson kicking his seventh goal from eight attempts.
