Army officer posted in Jabalpur detained by Military Intelligence

Earlier, there were speculations that the officer was being investigated for a possible case of honey trap.

The Military Intelligence was alerted by Intelligence Bureau about the officer of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) corps, after a big transaction was noticed from his account.

"The officer continues with his routine duties in the unit because it is yet to be ascertained whether the data leak was deliberate or an inadvertent mistake", army officials said here.

Official sources in Central Command Headquarters, while talking to "The Hitavada", confirmed that a team of Military Intelligence (MI) detained a Lieutenant Colonel rank officer now posted in 506 Army Base Workshop. He added, "Details on the outcome of the enquiry will be intimated in due course as per progress".

A preliminary enquiry was ordered by the Army on February 12 to discover the facts related to the suspected leakage of classified information from the digital devices of a Lt Colonel posted in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

"Army officer of Lt Colonel rank has been detained in Jabalpur over a honey trap case".

"However, it is yet to be established whether it has happened inadvertently or deliberately as reported", the officer added.

The sources further said that the detention was done on the basis of the officer's suspicious conduct.

Further, service personnel are regularly educated on the modus operandi of foreign intelligence operatives including awareness drive on threats from social media, sources said. However, it is still not clear whether the case pertains to graft or to supply of confidential information to Pakistan's spying agency.

Last week, an Air Force officer based in New Delhi was handed over to the police after being questioned by the counter-intelligence wing.
