A man has been charged with the alleged murder of a prominent Vietnamese lawyer at a Bankstown cafe last month.

Mr Ho, aged in his 60s, died on the side of a Bankstown Road, after being shot several times about 3:40pm on January 23 in what police described as a "targeted attack".

The 38-year-old man was allegedly attempting to board a plane for Bali when he was taken into custody by Strike Force Eugene investigators just before 10.00am.

He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he spent most of the day being questioned and then charged.

Mr Ledinh was one of the solicitors who represented Philip Nguyen, the man jailed over the killing of Sydney police officer Constable Bill Crews in 2010.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, and Bankstown detectives, established Strike Force Eugene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

It is unclear what charges the man will face, but he is expected to appear in court later today.
