I ran into him outside the parking lot, and we talked about his Valentine's Day plans. When first told about the shooting, Almora said: "I go, what school is it?"

I made fun of him for being cheap.

The Cubs' spring training facility is located just outside of Mesa, Ariz.

This is what Rizzo tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

"Parkland and Coral Springs please stay strong! This is out of control and and our country is in desperate need for change", he wrote on Twitter.

This school is very beloved and dear to Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo as it is his alma mater and a place that he donated $150,000 in November to help improve the lights at their baseball fields.

A few minutes later, the news broke of the shooting rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 dead and many more wounded.

The Cubs star also has an annual Walk-Off for Cancer at Pine Trails Park which is very close to the school which most of the community attends alongside Rizzo. "You're all in my prayers". The baseball field at the school is named after Rizzo.

Rizzo left the team's spring training headquarters in Arizona and is returning to Parkland to be aid his former school.
