Driver dies after after garbage truck crashes into Brisbane tent store

A garbage truck driver has died after his vehicle ploughed into a Brisbane camping shop.

The driver aged in his 40s, who was trapped in the cab, was declared dead at the scene.

The garbage truck crossed several lanes of traffic and hurtled through an intersection before crashing into a camping supplies store on the corner of Bowen Bridge Road and Northey Street in Windsor shortly after 9.30am (AEST).

Rescue crews are working to stabilise the building and retrieve the deceased.

The driver died following the impact.

Police said five people were inside the two-level shop at the time of the crash, including two male workers who were taken to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital with minor injuries.

Insp Gorey said it was lucky more people weren't injured.
